Just got the go ahead to post this one.
This is a promo piece for a mini I'm coloring for It'll be out sometime in '08. When Darren first told me he was doing a mini based on Ed Wood's classic Plan 9 From Outer Space, I pretty much begged him to let me color it. At first he thought I only meant the covers/posters/pinups for the book. I think I kinda shocked him when I said that I meant the book itself since he knows how I feel about backend deals I know I shocked myself!
I'm really lookin forward to this one. It's just gonna be so much mindless fun.
Found out that Nate had penciled this as a homage to the old P9 movie poster, so I was kinda obliged to steal the palette idea with the monotone.

Colors: me
We'll be the art team for the book, so nobody will be misled from the promo stuff. Expect more promo pieces as I get em.
As for the aging process, here's how I did it...
After I colored the piece, I added a new layer, filled it with a pale yellow, set the opacity to around 30% or so, and the blending mode to hard light. This helped knock back all the blacks a bit.
On top of that I added a new layer, filled it with a lite brown, set the opacity to around 15%, and the blending to multiply. This helped get the image feeling old and dirty.
Then in both of these new layers I added noise (gaussian, around 30) and then merged everything. I then added a new layer set to normal and 100% opacity. I grabbed the dingy white from the poster with the eyedropper, and then just ran around the edges with some custom scratch brushes.
